Why every WooCommerce SMS gateway in India needs DLT<\/h2>\n

India runs business SMS through a system called DLT. Operators check every message before it reaches a phone: who sent it, under which header, and whether the text matches an approved template. This applies to all business SMS sent to Indian numbers on a domestic route. It does not depend on the plugin you install or where your gateway is based.<\/p>\n

The last piece matters more than ever. From 30th September, SMS whose PE-TM chain does not match what is registered on DLT are blocked, and that includes OTPs. Twilio says the same thing in its own words. Its India SMS guidelines state that domestic alphanumeric sender IDs need pre-registration, and that your company and sender ID must first be registered on the operators’ DLT portal. In other words, the DLT work sits with your business whichever gateway sends the message.<\/p>\n

WooCommerce Twilio SMS notifications and YITH SMS notifications: what their pages say<\/h2>\n

Here is a neutral summary of the two extensions, based only on their public product pages. Features and terms can change, so check the linked pages for the latest details and prices.<\/p>\n

Twilio SMS Notifications<\/strong> is sold on WooCommerce.com<\/a> and developed by SkyVerge. It sends SMS through your own Twilio account. Its page lists SMS updates to customers when an order status changes, an SMS to the admin when a new order is placed, an SMS opt-in checkbox at checkout, messages for custom order statuses created with Order Status Manager, message text with order data such as store name, order ID, amount and status, test messages from the settings page, sending an SMS from the Edit Order screen with a character count, and SMS status shown in the order notes.<\/p>\n

Twilio’s India SMS guidelines<\/strong> (on twilio.com<\/a>) describe how Twilio handles Indian numbers. Domestic alphanumeric sender IDs are supported with pre-registration, after DLT registration of your company and sender ID. The page gives a provisioning timeframe of 10 business days, notes that operators add a two-letter prefix to a registered sender ID, and says a registered sender ID should be used only for its DLT-approved use case. For international traffic, it says numeric sender IDs sent to Indian subscribers are replaced by a random short number.<\/p>\n

YITH WooCommerce SMS Notifications<\/strong> is a premium plugin sold on yithemes.com<\/a>, with a licence that includes a year of updates and support. It sends SMS to customers and admins when an order status changes. The page lists more than 40 SMS services you can choose from, including Twilio, MSG91, SMSCountry, SpringEdge, SMS Gateway Hub and Clickatell. It also offers an optional consent checkbox at checkout, a table to choose which statuses send SMS (including custom statuses with YITH WooCommerce Custom Order Status), link shortening with Bitly or TinyURL, and an adjustable character limit with 160 as the default. Its FAQ says the plugin focuses on regular SMS for order status changes, and that SMS charges come from the provider you choose, separate from the plugin price.<\/p>\n
