Why a journey, not a blast

Reach the customers your first message missed

A single SMS blast reaches most of a list. The flow builder goes after the rest automatically, on the channel most likely to land, without messaging anyone twice.

Branch on the delivery result

Every step reports back sent, delivered or failed per number. The flow reads that result and decides what happens next for that one customer: a failed SMS can trigger a WhatsApp message, an unanswered call can fall back to SMS. Nobody gets a message they already received.

  • Conditions on sent, delivered, failed and not delivered
  • Each contact follows its own path
  • Stop the journey the moment a step succeeds

SMS, WhatsApp, RCS and Voice in one flow

Pick a DLT SMS template, a WhatsApp template, an RCS message or a recorded Voice call for any step. One contact list, one balance and one report cover all four channels, so you are not stitching reports from four tools.

  • Approved DLT, WhatsApp and RCS templates listed in the builder
  • Voice call step plays your MP3 to the customer
  • Mix channels in any order

Delays between steps

Add a wait of minutes, hours or days before the next step so the sequence feels like a conversation, not a burst. Follow up a delivery with a reminder the next morning, or give a payment link an hour before the call goes out.

  • Wait in minutes, hours or days
  • Respect sending windows for promotional messages
  • Schedule the first step for a date and time

One report, cost per step

The campaign report shows each step as its own row: how many entered it, how many were delivered, read or answered, how many failed and why, and what that step cost. You see exactly where customers were reached and what each channel is worth.

  • Per-channel sent, delivered, read, answered, failed
  • Failure reason per number on every channel
  • Cost per step and per journey, exportable to Excel
Step by step

How one journey runs for 12,480 contacts

Most contacts stop at step one. Only the ones a step could not reach move to the next channel, after the delay you set.

Journeys that work

Four sequences most businesses start with

Copy one, swap in your own templates and list. Every chip is a step you can edit, reorder or remove.

SMS first, WhatsApp if it fails, call if nothing lands

The standard reach-everyone journey. The SMS goes to all numbers under your DLT template. Numbers that fail get a WhatsApp template after ten minutes, and the few that have no WhatsApp get a short Voice call an hour later.

  1. Send SMS
  2. failed · 10 min
  3. Send WhatsApp
  4. not delivered · 1 h
  5. Voice call
Reaches close to 100% of a list at the lowest cost: most contacts stop after the first step.

WhatsApp first, SMS as fallback

For lists where most customers have opted in on WhatsApp. The richer message goes first; anyone without WhatsApp, or whose message is not delivered within the window you set, gets the same information as a DLT SMS.

  1. Send WhatsApp
  2. not delivered · 30 min
  3. Send SMS
Common for order updates, appointment reminders and payment links.

Delivered but no click: RCS reminder next day

A promotional SMS lands, but the link is not opened. The next day an RCS rich card with an image and buttons goes to the same number on Android handsets that support RCS, and an SMS to the rest.

  1. Send SMS
  2. delivered, no click · 1 day
  3. RCS rich card
  4. RCS not supported
  5. Reminder SMS
Works well for sales, course launches and renewal offers.

Payment due: SMS, then WhatsApp, then a call

Three days before the due date an SMS with the amount and link. If no payment is recorded, a WhatsApp message a day later. On the due date a Voice call reads out the amount and connects to your team on key press.

  1. Due reminder SMS
  2. 1 day
  3. WhatsApp with pay link
  4. due date
  5. Voice call
Fintech, schools, housing societies and subscription businesses.

The rest of the campaign builder

No tiers and no add-ons. Every account gets the full builder with the same balance it uses for SMS, WhatsApp, RCS and Voice.

Visual flow builder

Add a step, pick the channel and template, set the condition and the delay. The canvas shows the whole journey at a glance.

Approved templates only

Only your approved DLT, WhatsApp and RCS templates appear in the picker, with a live preview of the message for each step.

One Excel upload

Upload a sheet once. Columns map to variables in every step, so the name and amount are right on SMS, WhatsApp and the call.

Schedule and sending windows

Start the journey at a date and time. Promotional steps wait for the 10 am to 9 pm window automatically.

Webhooks on every step

Each delivery, read, answer or failure is pushed to your URL with the step name, so your CRM follows the journey too.

Pay only for what goes out

A step that is skipped costs nothing. Failed WhatsApp, RCS and Voice attempts are refunded to your wallet automatically within 48 hours.

Groups and opt-outs

Reuse your address book groups. Customers who opt out are removed from every later step of the journey.

Transaction history per step

Every debit shows the campaign, the step and the channel, so finance can see what each journey cost.

Pricing

Pay per message. Nothing for the builder.

Each step is charged at that channel's normal rate, only when it actually runs for a contact. A journey where 96% of contacts stop at the SMS costs little more than the SMS alone. No monthly fee, no setup cost, recharge from ₹100, and every debit in your transaction history names the campaign and the step.

  • SMS stepFrom ₹0.25 per SMS at the default rate; lower on larger recharges, down to ₹0.11.
  • WhatsApp stepPer conversation by category: utility, authentication or marketing. Failed messages refunded within 48 h.
  • RCS stepPer message, no setup or monthly charge. Failed messages refunded within 48 h.
  • Voice call stepPer answered call on a 15-second pulse. Missed and DND calls are not charged.

FAQ

Multi-channel campaigns: questions answered

What is a multi-channel campaign?

A multi-channel campaign sends a sequence of messages to the same customer across more than one channel, such as SMS, WhatsApp, RCS and Voice, instead of one blast on one channel. In Fast2SMS you build the sequence in the flow builder: a first step, a condition on its result, an optional delay, and the next step. Each contact moves through the steps on their own, so a customer who got the SMS never gets the WhatsApp fallback.

How does the Fast2SMS campaign flow builder work?

You add steps to a canvas. For each step you pick the channel (SMS, WhatsApp, RCS or Voice call) and an approved template, the condition that leads into it (for example "previous step failed" or "previous step delivered"), and how long to wait first. Then you upload your contact list or pick a group, check the preview of every step, and start the campaign now or at a scheduled time. The report shows each step as it runs.

What is SMS to WhatsApp fallback and when should I use it?

SMS to WhatsApp fallback means the campaign sends an SMS first and, for any number where the SMS failed, sends the same information as a WhatsApp template message after a short delay. Use it when you need to reach everyone: SMS lands on every handset, and WhatsApp catches the numbers that failed on SMS because of a DND flag on a promotional route, a switched-off phone at that moment, or an operator issue. The reverse, WhatsApp first with SMS fallback, suits lists where most customers are active on WhatsApp.

Which channels can I combine in one campaign?

DLT SMS, WhatsApp Business API template messages, RCS messages (rich cards with images and buttons on supported Android handsets) and Voice calls that play a recorded MP3. Any step can use any channel, in any order, and a journey can have several steps on the same channel, such as an SMS reminder two days after the first SMS.

What conditions can a step depend on?

The result of the previous step for that contact: sent, delivered, failed or not delivered within the time you set. For WhatsApp and RCS you can also branch on read, and for Voice calls on answered or not answered. You choose the condition per step, so one journey can have a "delivered" branch and a "failed" branch that do different things.

Can I add a delay between messages?

Yes. Each step has a wait before it runs, set in minutes, hours or days. Typical values are 10 to 30 minutes for a fallback, a day for a reminder and three days for a payment follow-up. Promotional steps also respect the 10 am to 9 pm sending window required for promotional SMS, so a step that would fall at night waits for the morning.

What does a multi-channel campaign cost?

You pay the normal per-message rate of each channel, only for the steps that actually go out: SMS from ₹0.25 per message at the default rate and lower on larger recharges, WhatsApp per conversation by category, RCS per message and Voice calls per answered call on a 15-second pulse. There is no fee for the flow builder itself, no monthly rental and no setup cost. Failed WhatsApp, RCS and Voice attempts are refunded to your wallet within 48 hours. Recharge from ₹100.

Is there a monthly fee for the campaign builder?

No. The builder is part of every Fast2SMS account. You recharge your wallet and the campaign debits it per message or call as each step runs. Your transaction history shows the campaign name, the step and the channel against every debit.

Do I need DLT registration to run a campaign?

For the SMS steps, yes: Indian regulations require every business SMS to go out under a registered sender ID and content template. Fast2SMS helps you register for free and reviews your templates before you submit them. WhatsApp steps need an approved WhatsApp template, and RCS steps an approved RCS agent and template; both are set up from the panel at no charge. Voice call steps need only your recorded audio.

How do I know what each step achieved?

The campaign report lists every step with how many contacts entered it, how many were delivered, read or answered, how many failed and the reason per number, and the cost of that step. You can open any step to see the per-number list, filter by status and export to Excel. The same events are pushed to your webhook as they happen.

Can a customer get the same message twice?

Not from the same journey. A contact moves to the next step only when the condition on the previous step is met for them. If the SMS was delivered, the "failed" branch never runs for that number. If you also want a reminder for the delivered ones, you add it on the "delivered" branch with its own delay, so it is a deliberate second message, not a repeat.

What happens to customers who opt out?

A customer who replies STOP on WhatsApp, taps unsubscribe on RCS or is added to your opt-out list is removed from all later steps of every running journey. Promotional SMS steps are scrubbed against the DND registry as usual.

Can I start a journey for one customer from my software?

Yes. Journeys run from an uploaded list or an address-book group, and your system can add contacts to a group through the Fast2SMS API. Each step then reports back to your webhook URL with the step name and status, so your CRM or order system can follow the customer through the journey.

How fast do the steps run?

The first step goes out at the start time at normal campaign speed; SMS and WhatsApp for lakhs of contacts complete in minutes. Later steps run as soon as their condition and delay are met for each contact. A fallback with a 10-minute wait fires ten minutes after that contact's SMS was reported failed, not after the whole campaign finishes.

Can I test a journey before sending to the full list?

Yes. Every new account has ₹50 credit for tests, and you can run any journey on a small group of your own numbers first. The preview on each step shows the exact SMS, WhatsApp or RCS message with the variables filled, and the Voice step lets you play the audio.

How is this different from a drip campaign tool?

A drip tool sends a fixed sequence on a timer. The Fast2SMS flow builder does that too, but it also reads the delivery result of each step and branches on it, and it works across SMS, WhatsApp, RCS and Voice from one Indian DLT-compliant account. You get operator-level delivery data per step rather than open-rate estimates.

Who do I talk to for help setting up a journey?

Chat support inside the panel, phone support on +91 6262778822 and email at [email protected]. If you want us to design the first journey with you, schedule a meeting and we will build it on a call, including DLT and WhatsApp template help.
