Bulk Voice Call (OBD) Service in India: Price, Uses and Setup
A bulk voice call, also called OBD (outbound dialling), plays a pre-recorded message to thousands of phone numbers at once. On Fast2SMS you upload an MP3 or record the audio, upload your numbers from Excel or CSV and send the campaign, and at the time of writing you pay ₹0.25 per 15-second pulse only for calls that are answered. Missed, busy, switched-off and DND calls cost nothing, and any such debit is refunded to your wallet automatically within 48 hours. Promotional calls reach Non-DND numbers between 9 am and 9 pm, while reminders, alerts and OTPs reach every number at any time.
This guide explains how bulk voice calling works, what it really costs, how to record a message people listen to, the rules for DND and calling hours, Voice OTP, IVR and cloud numbers, election and business use cases, and how to set up your first campaign.
What is a bulk voice call (OBD)?
A bulk voice call is an automated phone call that plays the same recorded message to a long list of numbers. You prepare the audio and the list once; the platform dials every number, plays the message when the person picks up, and records whether each call was answered, missed, busy or blocked. In the telecom industry this is known as OBD, short for outbound dialler or outbound dialling, because the calls go out from the business to the customer. You will also hear it called voice broadcasting, voice SMS, robocalling or an automated voice call service.
It is worth separating four related services, because people often mix them up:
| Service | Direction | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Bulk voice call (OBD) | Outgoing | Plays one recorded message to a list of numbers: reminders, alerts, offers, announcements. |
| Voice OTP | Outgoing, one at a time | An automated call that reads a one-time password aloud, triggered by your app through the API. |
| IVR | Incoming | Answers customers who call your business number, plays a menu ("press 1 for sales") and routes the call. |
| Cloud number | Both | A virtual business number for incoming and outgoing calls, with recording, logs and agents. |
Fast2SMS offers all four from one voice call panel, in the same account and wallet you use for SMS, WhatsApp and RCS.
How an OBD campaign works
Behind the scenes, the platform reads your list, removes duplicates and invalid numbers, and for promotional campaigns checks every number against the national DND registry before dialling. The calls are placed; when someone answers, the audio starts playing and the clock starts. The duration from pick-up to hang-up is rounded up to the next 15 seconds to count pulses. Calls nobody picks up are recorded as missed or busy and cost nothing. The report updates in real time while the campaign runs.
Why voice calls still work in India
- A call is heard even by people who never read SMS. Many customers skim past text messages, but very few ignore a ringing phone.
- It works on every phone. Feature phones, landlines and smartphones with a full or filtered SMS inbox all receive a voice call. No app or internet is needed.
- Any language, any reading level. You record the audio yourself, so Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali or any dialect works equally well. Customers who are more comfortable listening than reading get the message in their own words.
- It feels personal. A familiar voice from a school principal, a doctor's clinic or a local shop carries more weight than plain text.
- Phones are always nearby. Fast2SMS's help guide notes that more than 90% of people keep their phones with them all day.
Voice is not a replacement for SMS or WhatsApp; it complements them. The best results usually come from sending the details by text and using a short call to make sure the message is actually noticed.
Bulk voice call price: pay only for answered calls
At the time of writing, Fast2SMS bills bulk voice calls at ₹0.25 per 15-second pulse, and only for calls that were answered. There is no setup fee and no monthly platform fee for bulk calls or Voice OTP. You recharge from ₹100 and pay as you go, and new accounts get ₹50 free credit to test.
| Answered call duration | Pulses | You pay |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 15 seconds | 1 | ₹0.25 |
| 16 to 30 seconds | 2 | ₹0.50 |
| 31 to 45 seconds | 3 | ₹0.75 |
| 46 to 60 seconds | 4 | ₹1.00 |
| Missed, busy, switched off, DND | 0 | ₹0.00 |
How to estimate a campaign
Multiply the number of answered calls by the average pulses per call by ₹0.25. Fast2SMS's own example: 10,000 calls, of which 6,842 are answered, averaging two pulses each, comes to 13,684 pulses, or ₹3,421. The 3,158 missed and DND calls cost nothing. A customer who hangs up after six seconds still counts as one pulse, because the call was answered.
Two practical conclusions follow. First, the length of your audio matters more than the size of your list: a 14-second message costs half as much per answered call as a 20-second one. Second, you never pay for numbers that did not pick up, so you can retry them later without wasting money.
Refunds and what is not charged
Operators sometimes confirm a call's final status hours after a campaign. Fast2SMS reconciles every campaign against the operator's final records, and any amount debited for a call that was not answered comes back to your wallet automatically within 48 hours. Each refund appears in Transaction History with the campaign name. Duplicates and invalid numbers are removed before dialling, so you do not pay for them either.
Cloud number, IVR and agents
A cloud number has a monthly rental per number, shown in the panel when you request one, plus the usual per-pulse charge for call minutes. The drag-and-drop IVR flow builder and any number of agents and call groups are free. For several numbers or high volumes, contact sales for a custom rate.
DND and calling-time rules for bulk voice calls
Voice calls follow the same idea as SMS: marketing is limited, important information is not. The panel applies these rules for you, so a campaign is not rejected or wrongly charged.
| Call type | Examples | Who receives it | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Promotional | Offers, sales, launches, property or admission marketing | Non-DND numbers only; DND numbers are removed before dialling and never charged | 9 am to 9 pm |
| Transactional / service | Payment and EMI reminders, appointment confirmations, delivery updates, notices, alerts | All numbers, including DND | Any time |
| Voice OTP | Login, payment and delivery confirmation codes | The number the customer gave you, including DND | Any time |
| Cloud number calls | Incoming customer calls, outgoing agent calls | Your callers and customers | As per your business hours rules |
If you schedule a promotional campaign outside the window, it is held and dialled from the next permitted time. Fast2SMS's older help guide gave the promotional window as 10 am to 9 pm; the current voice call page says 9 am to 9 pm, and the panel enforces whichever applies, so you do not need to track it yourself.
Other points to keep in mind:
- No DLT registration is required for voice calls, according to Fast2SMS's help guides. That makes voice one of the fastest channels to start with.
- Identify yourself. Say who is calling at the start of the message. A clear identification is part of calling legally in India.
- Transactional means informative. Do not slip an offer into a reminder to reach DND numbers; keep marketing on the promotional route.
- No personal, spam or fraud calls. The service is for business use, and campaigns that look like spam or fraud are not allowed.
- Offer an opt-out. Respect people who do not want further calls and remove them from your lists.
More on DND is on Fast2SMS's DND page.
Step by step: your first bulk voice campaign on Fast2SMS
- Create a free account. Sign up at fast2sms.com with your mobile number. ₹50 credit is added so you can test a voice call or a Voice OTP straight away.
- Recharge when ready. Add money from ₹100 by UPI, card or net banking. There is no pack to buy and no monthly fee.
- Open the Voice section from the left menu of the panel.
- Add your audio. Upload an MP3 or WAV file, use a text-to-voice file, or record the message directly in the panel. Preview it before moving on.
- Add the numbers. Type a few numbers, or upload an Excel or CSV sheet for a large list. Duplicates and invalid numbers are removed before dialling.
- Pick the type. Choose promotional for marketing (DND numbers are scrubbed automatically) or transactional for reminders and alerts that must reach everyone.
- Send now or schedule. Pick a date and time inside the permitted window if you want the calls to go out later.
- Confirm. A confirmation box shows the campaign details. Fast2SMS's help guide says new voice messages are checked by the team before release and approval can take 12 to 24 hours, so upload important campaigns early.
- Track the report. Watch answered, missed, busy and DND counts update live, then retry the missed numbers with one click if you need to.
The full screen-by-screen process is in the help article how to send bulk voice calls, and common questions are answered in the voice call FAQs.
How to record a message people listen to till the end
Most listeners decide within the first few seconds whether to stay on the line. Because every 15 seconds is a pulse, a tight message is both more effective and cheaper.
A simple script structure
- Who is calling (2 to 3 seconds): "Namaste, this is Demo Clinic, MG Road."
- The one thing you need them to know (6 to 8 seconds): "Your appointment with Dr. Mehta is tomorrow at 4:30 pm."
- What to do next (3 to 4 seconds): "To change it, please call us on the number in our SMS."
That message fits comfortably in one pulse. Promotional messages work best within 15 to 30 seconds, and transactional reminders are usually 15 to 20 seconds.
Sample scripts
| Business | Type | Script |
|---|---|---|
| Lender or NBFC | Transactional | "Hello, this is Demo Finance. Your EMI of rupees 3,500 is due on the 10th. Please pay through the app or at your branch. Thank you." |
| School | Service | "Dear parents, Demo Public School will stay closed on Friday for the local holiday. Classes resume on Saturday. Thank you." |
| Retail store | Promotional | "Big weekend sale at Demo Store, Station Road! Flat 30 percent off on footwear till Sunday. Visit us today." |
| Housing society | Service | "Green Park Society notice: water supply will be off on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm for tank cleaning. Please store water in advance." |
Recording tips
- Use a clear, professional voice or good-quality text-to-speech. Speak a little slower than normal conversation.
- Avoid background music and noise. Fancy effects make the words harder to follow on a phone line.
- Repeat the critical detail once, such as a date, an amount or a code.
- Record one version per language and run separate campaigns for each regional list.
- Put your callback details in the message or in a follow-up SMS. Fast2SMS's older help guide notes that promotional calls may show a random caller ID, so customers cannot always call the displayed number back. If you need a fixed caller ID, ask about a cloud number.
- Preview before sending. Listen to the final file in the panel, exactly as customers will hear it.
Reading the call report, retrying and understanding failures
Open any campaign and every number is listed with its status (answered, missed, busy, switched off or DND), the call duration, the number of pulses and the exact charge. Missed calls show ₹0. Summary counts update in real time, you can filter by route, date and time, and the whole sheet exports to Excel. Each campaign also has an entry in Transaction History.
To reach people who did not answer, select the missed and busy numbers and launch a retry campaign with one click, or schedule it for a better time of day. Only the calls answered in the retry are charged.
Why calls fail
Fast2SMS's voice FAQ lists the usual reasons a call does not connect:
- Invalid or unallocated number.
- Subscriber not available, switched off or out of coverage.
- No response from the handset, or the phone cannot receive incoming calls.
- Network failure or congestion at the operator.
- Call timed out after all retries, including retries through different operators.
None of these cost you anything under answered-only billing. If the same numbers fail campaign after campaign, remove them from your list.
Voice OTP API: codes that reach every phone
Voice OTP is a one-time password delivered by an automated call that reads the digits aloud, twice, so the customer does not need to ask for a repeat. It reaches feature phones, landlines and customers whose SMS inbox is full or filtered. Most businesses use it as a fallback when an SMS OTP has not arrived within a few seconds, and some use it as the first choice for older or voice-first customers.
Voice OTP runs on the same Smart OTP API as SMS and WhatsApp OTPs. You create an OTP template in the panel (Smart OTP, then Templates) and set its channel to Voice call. Your app then sends one request:
curl -X POST https://www.fast2sms.com/dev/otp/send \
-H "Authorization: YOUR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"mobile":"9999999999","otp_id":"YOUR_VOICE_TEMPLATE_ID",
"otp_length":6,"otp_expiry":10}'
Fast2SMS generates the code, places the call within a few seconds and stores the code. When the user types it in, your app calls POST /dev/otp/verify with the mobile number and the OTP. You never store or compare codes yourself. A fallback channel can be set on the template, so a missed voice call can be followed by an SMS or WhatsApp OTP automatically, or the other way round. Pricing is the same pulse rate, answered calls only, and most OTP calls finish inside one pulse.
Code samples for PHP, Node, Python, Java and .NET are at docs.fast2sms.com. Compare channels on the OTP SMS page and in the WhatsApp OTP API guide.
Cloud number, IVR flow builder and agents
Bulk calls go out; a cloud number brings calls in. A cloud number, also called a virtual number, is a business phone number hosted on the platform. When customers call it, your IVR answers, plays a welcome message and a menu, and routes the call to the right person. Your agents can also place outgoing calls that show the same number, so customers always see one consistent business number.
- IVR flow builder: build the welcome audio, key-press menus and sub-menus, routing to an agent or a ring group, voicemail, and business-hours and holiday rules by dragging blocks. Change the flow any time.
- Agents and ring groups: add agents with their mobile or desk numbers, group them, and ring them in round robin or all at once. Agents and groups are free, however many you add.
- Recording and logs: every call is logged with time, direction, agent and duration, and recordings play back in the panel.
- KYC: operator rules require basic business KYC such as PAN or GST and an address proof before a number is activated. The team collects these during onboarding, and activation usually takes one to three working days.
A cloud number pairs well with bulk calls. Your campaign tells customers about an offer or a pending payment, and when they call back, the IVR sends them straight to sales or collections.
Bulk voice call use cases by sector
Payment reminders and collections
Lenders, NBFCs, finance companies, utilities and subscription businesses call every borrower or customer a day before a due date. Because these are transactional calls, DND numbers are reached too. A short, polite reminder with the amount and the due date, followed by a payment link on SMS or WhatsApp, recovers more on time than text alone. Pair it with a cloud number so customers who call back reach your collections team directly.
Appointments and healthcare
Clinics, diagnostic labs and hospitals call patients the evening before an appointment, or when a report is ready. Patients who do not read SMS still turn up on time, and a 15-second reminder costs one pulse per answered call.
Schools, colleges and coaching institutes
Holiday notices, exam schedules, PTM dates and fee reminders reach every parent at once, in the local language, recorded by the principal or class teacher.
Marketing and sales
Retail stores, real estate developers, education counsellors and event organisers announce festival sales, site visits, admissions and launches to their Non-DND customer lists between 9 am and 9 pm. Keep the message under 30 seconds and end with a clear next step.
Alerts, notices and confirmations
Housing societies, government offices, NGOs and service businesses use voice for notices that must reach everyone: a water cut, a meeting, an emergency change of plan, or delivery and order confirmations.
Fast2SMS's help articles on what bulk voice call is and the automated voice call service list more message ideas for each route.
Bulk voice calls for election and political campaigns
Voice calls are popular for election campaigns because a recorded message from a candidate, in the voter's own language, reaches every type of phone in a constituency. Typical uses are rally and meeting announcements, introductions of the candidate and party, reminders of polling day and booth details for supporters, and thank-you messages after the result.
A few practical points for planning a political voice campaign on Fast2SMS:
- Plan it under promotional rules. A campaign appeal is not a reminder about an existing transaction, so expect calls to reach Non-DND numbers only, within the 9 am to 9 pm window.
- Talk to the team first. For a large election campaign, book a call at fast2sms.com/meet so the right route, approval timing and volume are sorted before the dates that matter.
- Upload early. Voice messages may be reviewed before release, so do not leave the audio until the last day.
- Record region by region. Separate lists and recordings per area or language work better than one generic message.
- Keep it short and identify the sender at the start of the message.
- Use answered-only billing to your advantage. Retry missed numbers at a different time of day without paying for the ones that did not pick up.
Election campaigns are also subject to the rules of the election authorities, which are outside the scope of this guide; check them before you launch.
Voice calls vs SMS vs WhatsApp vs RCS
| Bulk voice call | Bulk SMS | WhatsApp Business API | RCS | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Works on feature phones | Yes, and landlines | Yes | No, needs WhatsApp | No, needs RCS-enabled Android |
| Needs DLT | No, per Fast2SMS's guides | Yes | No, Meta approves templates | See the RCS guide |
| Best for | Attention, reminders, non-readers, local languages | OTPs, updates, links | Rich media, two-way chat | Branded cards, carousels and buttons |
| Billing on Fast2SMS | ₹0.25 per 15 s pulse, answered only | From ₹0.11 to ₹0.25 per SMS | Per delivered message; failed ones refunded | Per message |
| Two-way | Customers call back on a cloud number | Mainly one-way | Yes, live chat inbox | Yes, replies by webhook |
Each channel has a job. A good pattern is to send the details on SMS or WhatsApp and follow up with a short call for customers who did not respond. The Campaign flow builder automates this: SMS first, then WhatsApp, RCS or a voice call based on delivery, with delays between steps. Read the bulk SMS guide, the bulk WhatsApp guide and the RCS business messaging guide to plan the other steps, and see SMS pricing for text rates.
Mistakes to avoid in bulk voice campaigns
- Long audio. A 50-second message costs four pulses per answered call and most people will not hear the end. Cut to the essentials.
- Not saying who is calling. Unidentified calls get cut in the first seconds and erode trust.
- Marketing on the transactional route. Offers belong on the promotional route, with its DND and time limits.
- Poor recordings. Background noise, music or a fast speaker make the message hard to follow on a phone line.
- Calling at the wrong time. Even for transactional calls, early mornings and late nights annoy people.
- One message for every region. Record in the language your listeners actually use.
- Leaving campaigns to the last minute. Allow time for review before time-sensitive campaigns such as sales or polling-day reminders.
- Ignoring the report. Retry missed numbers, and clean numbers that fail every time.

Frequently asked questions
What is a bulk voice call?
A bulk voice call is an automated call that plays one pre-recorded message to a large list of phone numbers at the same time. Businesses use it for reminders, alerts, announcements and offers that customers hear instead of read.
What is the full form of OBD in calls?
OBD stands for outbound dialler or outbound dialling. It means calls placed from a business to customers, as opposed to inbound calls that customers make to the business.
What is an OBD call service?
An OBD call service dials your list of numbers automatically and plays your recorded message when each call is answered. It then reports which calls were answered, missed, busy or blocked by DND.
What does OBD mean in a call centre?
In a call centre, OBD refers to outbound calling. In bulk voice campaigns the outbound calls are fully automated: no agent is needed, because the platform plays a recorded message.
What is voice broadcasting?
Voice broadcasting means delivering a single phone message to many recipients at once. It is another name for bulk voice calling and is widely used for notifications, reminders, marketing and surveys.
Is bulk voice SMS the same as voice broadcasting?
They overlap. Bulk voice SMS sends a pre-recorded message to a targeted list, while voice broadcasting is the wider term for delivering one phone message to many people, live or recorded. On Fast2SMS both mean sending your recorded audio to a list of numbers.
What is the difference between OBD and IVR?
OBD is outgoing: you call a list of customers with a recorded message. IVR is incoming: it answers customers who call your business number, plays a menu and routes them to the right agent.
What is a voice SMS?
Voice SMS is a common name for a short automated voice call that carries a recorded message, sent through a bulk messaging panel. It is the same service as a bulk voice call.
What is an automated voice call service?
It is a service that places calls and plays pre-recorded messages without a human caller, so you can reach customers at scale. Fast2SMS’s automated voice call guide lists message ideas for each route.
How does a bulk voice call campaign work?
You upload or record the audio, upload your numbers from Excel or CSV, choose promotional or transactional and send or schedule. The platform dials each number, plays the message on pick-up and updates the report live.
Is bulk voice calling legal in India?
Yes, when TRAI’s rules are followed: transactional calls to people who have a relationship with your business, promotional calls only to Non-DND numbers within the permitted hours, and a clear identification of who is calling. Fast2SMS applies the DND scrubbing and time window automatically for promotional campaigns.
Is DLT registration required for voice calls?
No. According to Fast2SMS’s help guides, DLT registration is not required to send voice calls, which makes voice one of the quickest channels to start with. DLT applies to business SMS.
Can bulk voice calls reach landline numbers?
Yes. Voice calls can reach landlines as well as mobiles, and Voice OTP in particular is used for customers on landlines and feature phones.
Do bulk voice calls work on feature phones?
Yes. A voice call needs no app, no internet and no smartphone, so it reaches basic feature phones just as well as the latest handsets.
Why use voice calls when SMS costs less per message?
Because a call gets noticed. Customers who skip SMS still answer a ringing phone, and with answered-only billing you pay only for the people who actually heard the message.
Is the bulk voice call service available across India?
Yes. Fast2SMS offers bulk voice calls, Voice OTP and cloud numbers for businesses across India from a web panel.
What is the bulk voice call price on Fast2SMS?
At the time of writing, bulk voice calls cost ₹0.25 per 15-second pulse, charged only for answered calls. There is no setup fee or monthly platform fee, and you recharge from ₹100.
How is a voice call pulse calculated?
The time from pick-up to hang-up is rounded up to the next 15 seconds. Each 15-second block is one pulse, so a 12-second call is one pulse and a 20-second call is two.
Am I charged for calls that are not answered?
No. Missed, busy, switched-off, invalid and DND-blocked calls cost nothing. You pay only when the customer picks up.
What counts as an answered call?
A call counts as answered when the customer picks up and the audio starts playing. If they hang up after a few seconds it is still one pulse, because the call was answered.
How much does a 30-second voice message cost per call?
A 30-second message is two pulses, so each answered call costs ₹0.50 at the current rate. Unanswered calls cost nothing.
How much does a one-minute voice call cost?
An answered call lasting 46 to 60 seconds uses four pulses, which is ₹1.00. A call of 61 seconds becomes five pulses, or ₹1.25, so trimming a second or two can save a pulse.
How do I estimate the cost of 10,000 voice calls?
Multiply answered calls by average pulses by ₹0.25. In Fast2SMS’s example, 6,842 of 10,000 calls are answered at two pulses each: 13,684 pulses cost ₹3,421, and the missed and DND calls cost ₹0.
Is there a setup fee for bulk voice calls?
No. There is no setup fee and no monthly platform fee for bulk voice calls or Voice OTP. You only pay the call pulses.
What is the minimum recharge for voice calls?
The minimum recharge is ₹100, and new accounts receive ₹50 free credit to test first.
Can I try bulk voice calls for free?
Yes. Signup gives ₹50 credit, so you can test a voice call or a Voice OTP on your own phone before recharging.
Can I send a bulk voice call free online without registration?
You need a free Fast2SMS account, which takes a few minutes with your mobile number, but no DLT registration. The ₹50 signup credit covers your first test calls.
How do voice call refunds work?
Fast2SMS reconciles each campaign with the operator’s final records. Any amount debited for a call that was not answered is credited back to your wallet automatically within 48 hours and listed in Transaction History.
Are DND numbers charged in a promotional voice campaign?
No. DND numbers are removed before dialling in promotional campaigns and are never charged.
Do I pay for duplicate or invalid numbers in my list?
No. Duplicates and invalid numbers are removed before dialling, so you never pay for them.
Is GST charged on voice call recharges?
Yes. Recharges carry 18% GST, and a GST invoice is generated for every payment in your Transaction History.
Can I use the same wallet for voice calls, SMS and WhatsApp?
Yes. One Fast2SMS wallet pays for voice calls, bulk SMS, WhatsApp Business API and RCS messages.
Can I get a custom rate for high voice volumes?
Yes. For large campaigns, several cloud numbers or high call volumes, contact sales or book a call at fast2sms.com/meet.
Can I send bulk voice calls to DND numbers?
Transactional calls such as payment reminders, appointment confirmations, delivery updates and OTPs reach all numbers, DND included. Promotional calls reach only Non-DND numbers, as TRAI requires.
What are the permitted timings for promotional voice calls?
The current Fast2SMS voice call page gives 9 am to 9 pm for promotional calls. An older help guide said 10 am to 9 pm; the panel enforces the window for you.
Can transactional voice calls be made at night?
Yes. Transactional calls such as OTPs and reminders can be placed at any time, although sensible hours give better results for reminders.
What happens if I schedule a promotional voice campaign late at night?
It is held and dialled from the next permitted time, so the calls are not placed outside the promotional window.
What is the difference between promotional and transactional voice calls?
Promotional calls carry marketing such as offers and launches and reach Non-DND numbers in the daytime window. Transactional calls carry information for existing customers and reach every number at any time.
Which messages can go on the transactional or service voice route?
Alerts, one-time passwords, transaction details, login details, membership and subscription updates, notices, reminders, payment receipts and other important notifications for your registered customers.
Which messages belong on the promotional voice route?
Brand promotions, offers, sales, discount coupons, festive offers, latest deals and invitations to events or seminars.
Are personal voice calls allowed?
No. The service is for business communication. Personal calls, spam and fraud calls are strictly prohibited.
Do bulk voice calls need approval before sending?
Fast2SMS’s help guide says voice messages are checked by the team before they are released and approval can take 12 to 24 hours, so upload time-sensitive campaigns early.
Which caller ID will customers see on a bulk voice call?
Fast2SMS’s older help guide notes that promotional voice calls may go out from a random caller ID, so include your callback details in the message. Calls placed by your agents from a cloud number show that number as the caller ID.
Which audio formats can I upload for a bulk voice call?
MP3 and WAV files are accepted. You can also use a text-to-voice file or record the message directly in the panel.
How long should a bulk voice call message be?
Keep promotional messages within 15 to 30 seconds and transactional reminders around 15 to 20 seconds. Listeners decide quickly whether to keep listening, and every 15 seconds is a pulse.
Can I use text-to-speech for voice calls?
Yes. You can upload a text-to-voice file instead of a studio recording. Choose a clear, natural voice and preview it before sending.
Can I record the voice message inside the panel?
Yes. The Voice section lets you record directly in the panel, upload a file, and play it back before you send.
In which languages can I send voice calls?
Any language. You record or upload the audio yourself, so Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and every other language work the same way.
Can I hear the voice message before it goes out?
Yes. You can preview the audio in the panel exactly as customers will hear it before confirming the campaign.
How do I write a good voice call script?
Say who is calling, give the one thing the listener must know, then tell them what to do next. Repeat the key detail once and keep the whole message as short as possible.
Should I add background music to a voice call?
It is better not to. Background music and noise make words harder to follow on a phone line. A clear voice without effects works best.
How do I give listeners an opt-out in a voice campaign?
Tell listeners how to stop further calls, for example by calling or messaging your business number, and remove those numbers from future lists. Respecting opt-outs keeps your campaigns welcome.
Can I run different recordings for different regions?
Yes. Many businesses record one message per language or region and run a separate campaign for each list.
How do I send bulk voice calls on Fast2SMS?
Sign up, recharge from ₹100, open Voice in the panel, upload or record your audio, add numbers from Excel or CSV, choose promotional or transactional, then send now or schedule and confirm. The help article shows each screen.
How do I add numbers for a voice campaign?
Type a few numbers directly, or upload an Excel or CSV sheet for larger lists. Duplicates and invalid numbers are removed before dialling.
Can I schedule bulk voice calls for later?
Yes. Choose a date and time when creating the campaign, confirm, and the calls go out at the scheduled time after approval.
Do scheduled voice campaigns also need approval?
Yes. A scheduled campaign is checked like any other and, once approved, goes out at the date and time you picked. Schedule well ahead of important dates.
Can I retry the numbers that did not answer?
Yes. From the campaign report, select the missed and busy numbers and launch a retry with one click, or schedule it for later. Only calls answered in the retry are charged.
Do I need any software to send voice calls?
No. Everything runs in the Fast2SMS web panel. Developers can trigger Voice OTP through the API.
Do I need documents or KYC for bulk voice calls?
For bulk voice calls and Voice OTP you need a verified Fast2SMS account with your business details. A cloud number needs basic business KYC before activation.
Where can I see the report of my voice calls?
Open the campaign from the Voice section or Delivery Reports. Counts for processed, answered, missed, busy and DND calls update in real time.
What does the voice call report show for each number?
Each number shows its status (answered, missed, busy, switched off or DND), the call duration, the number of pulses and the exact charge.
Can I download the voice call report?
Yes. The report can be filtered by route, day and time and exported to Excel.
Why did my voice call fail?
Common reasons are an invalid number, the subscriber being unavailable, switched off or out of coverage, no response from the handset, network failure or congestion, and timeouts after all retries. Under answered-only billing, none of these cost you anything.
How can I see what each voice call cost?
The per-number report shows duration, pulses and charge for every answered call, and Transaction History lists each campaign debit and any refund.
What is Voice OTP?
Voice OTP is a one-time password delivered by an automated call that reads the digits aloud, twice. It reaches feature phones, landlines and customers whose SMS inbox is full or filtered.
When should I use Voice OTP instead of SMS OTP?
Most businesses use it as a fallback when an SMS OTP is not delivered within a few seconds. Some use it first for older or voice-first customers.
How do I send a Voice OTP from my app or website?
Create a Smart OTP template with Voice call as the channel, then call POST https://www.fast2sms.com/dev/otp/send with the mobile number and that template’s otp_id, using your API key in the Authorization header. Fast2SMS generates the code and reads it out.
How do I verify a Voice OTP?
Call POST /dev/otp/verify with the mobile number and the code the user typed. Fast2SMS checks it server-side, so your app never stores or compares OTPs.
Does Fast2SMS offer a voice call API in India?
Yes. Voice OTP is available through the Smart OTP API, with code samples for PHP, Node, Python, Java and .NET at docs.fast2sms.com. For automating larger voice workflows, ask the team which options suit your use case.
How quickly is a Voice OTP call placed?
The call is placed within a few seconds of the API request, and the OTP is read as soon as the customer answers.
What does a Voice OTP cost?
Voice OTP uses the same rate of ₹0.25 per 15-second pulse, charged only when answered. Most OTP calls finish within one pulse.
Can Voice OTP fall back to SMS or WhatsApp?
Yes. A fallback channel can be set on the Smart OTP template, so Fast2SMS switches to SMS or WhatsApp automatically when the first attempt is not delivered, or uses voice as the fallback for an SMS template. See Smart OTP.
What is a cloud number?
A cloud number, or virtual number, is a business phone number hosted on the platform. It handles incoming calls through an IVR and outgoing calls by your agents, with recording and logs.
What is an IVR system?
An IVR (interactive voice response) answers incoming calls with a welcome message and a key-press menu, then routes callers to the right agent, group or voicemail.
Is the Fast2SMS IVR flow builder free?
Yes. The drag-and-drop IVR builder is included at no charge with every cloud number. You pay only the number’s monthly rental and the call pulses.
Does Fast2SMS charge per agent?
No. Agents and call groups are free, however many you add, and can be added, paused or removed without changing your bill.
What is a ring group or call group?
A call group is a set of agents who receive calls from the IVR together. It can ring them in round robin or all at once, so the first free person answers.
Can I change my IVR flow after it goes live?
Yes. Edit the flow in the drag-and-drop builder whenever you like, for example to update the menu or business hours, without calling anyone.
What does a cloud number cost?
A cloud number has a monthly rental per number, shown in the panel when you request it, plus per-pulse charges for call minutes. The IVR and agents on it are free.
What KYC is needed for a cloud number?
Operator rules require basic business KYC such as PAN or GST and an address proof. The Fast2SMS team collects these during onboarding.
How long does cloud number activation take?
Activation usually takes one to three working days after the KYC documents are submitted.
Are calls on the cloud number recorded?
Yes. Every call is logged with time, direction, agent and duration, and recordings play back in the panel.
Can agents make outgoing calls from the cloud number?
Yes. Agents can place outgoing calls that show the cloud number as the caller ID, so customers always see one business number.
What can I build with the IVR flow builder?
A welcome message, key-press menus and sub-menus, routing to an agent or ring group, voicemail, and business-hours and holiday rules, all by dragging blocks.
Can I use bulk voice calls for an election campaign?
Yes, voice is popular for election outreach because a recorded message in the local language reaches every phone. Plan campaign appeals under promotional rules (Non-DND numbers, daytime window), upload early for review, and talk to the team at fast2sms.com/meet before large campaigns.
How do political campaigns use bulk voice calls?
Typical uses are rally and meeting announcements, introducing the candidate, polling-day reminders for supporters and thank-you messages after the result, recorded separately for each region or language.
What should a political voice message include?
Who is calling, one clear message, and the next step such as the date and place of a meeting. Keep it short so most listeners hear it to the end.
Can lenders use bulk voice calls for EMI reminders and collections?
Yes. Lenders and NBFCs call every borrower before the due date on the transactional route, so DND numbers are reached too. A cloud number lets borrowers call back to your collections team.
Can clinics and hospitals use voice calls for appointment reminders?
Yes. A call the evening before helps patients who do not read SMS arrive on time, and a short reminder fits in one pulse per answered call.
Can schools send voice calls to parents?
Yes. Schools and coaching institutes send holiday notices, exam schedules and fee reminders to all parents at once, in the local language.
Can I use voice calls to promote offers and sales?
Yes, on the promotional route. Retail stores, real estate developers and education marketers announce offers to Non-DND customers within the daytime window.

Can housing societies use bulk voice calls?
Yes. Water cuts, maintenance work and meeting notices reach every resident by call, including those who ignore text messages.
Can real estate businesses use bulk voice calls?
Yes. Developers and brokers announce launches and site visits on the promotional route to Non-DND numbers within the daytime window, with a cloud number for interested buyers to call back.
Can restaurants and service businesses use voice calls?
Yes. A short thank-you and feedback call after a visit works well, with your cloud number shown so the customer can call you back.
Can event organisers use bulk voice calls?
Yes. Invitations to events and seminars go on the promotional route, while venue and timing updates for registered attendees can go as service calls.
Is a voice call better than SMS?
Neither is better for everything. Voice gets attention and suits customers who do not read texts; SMS is cheaper per contact and ideal for OTPs, links and records. Many businesses send details by SMS and use a short call as a follow-up. See the bulk SMS guide.
Should I use voice calls or WhatsApp?
WhatsApp is best for rich media, documents and two-way chat with smartphone users. Voice reaches everyone, including feature phones, and is heard rather than read. Read the bulk WhatsApp guide to compare.
Can I combine voice calls with SMS and WhatsApp automatically?
Yes. The Campaign flow builder sends SMS first and then WhatsApp, RCS or a voice call depending on delivery, with delays between steps.
Who is the best bulk voice call service provider in India?
Look for answered-only billing, short pulses, automatic DND scrubbing, a per-number report, no setup fee and real support. Fast2SMS has offered business messaging in India since 2011 and meets all of these.
