WooCommerce OTP Cost: Free Plugin, ₹0.25 per WhatsApp OTP
Most store owners ask two questions before adding OTP: what is the WooCommerce OTP plugin price, and what does each OTP cost in India? The honest answer has two parts. There is the plugin, which can be free or sold as a yearly licence. Then there are the messages, which you pay for with every plugin because WhatsApp and SMS are never free to send.
This guide does the maths with real numbers. The Fast2SMS plugin is a free WooCommerce OTP plugin: no licence, no monthly fee. You pay only per message from your own Fast2SMS wallet. WhatsApp OTP costs ₹0.25 per delivered OTP, and failed WhatsApp messages are refunded. Below you will see what 1,000 or 10,000 OTPs a month cost, what drives your OTP volume, and how other billing models compare.

WooCommerce OTP plugin price: the two costs you pay
Every OTP setup has two costs. Keep them apart when you compare plugins.
- The plugin. Some OTP plugins charge a yearly licence for features. Some are free. “Fast2SMS – OTP Login & SMS Notifications” is free on WordPress.org, with no licence, no monthly fee and no setup fee. You install it from Plugins > Add New by searching “Fast2SMS”.
- The messages. Every OTP is a WhatsApp message or an SMS, and someone pays the operator for it. With the Fast2SMS plugin you connect your own Fast2SMS API key and pay per message from your wallet. Nothing is marked up by the plugin.
So when someone says “woocommerce otp free”, check which part is free. A free plugin still needs paid messages. A plugin with a free tier may limit how many OTPs you get before you need a paid plan.
WhatsApp OTP cost in India: ₹0.25 per delivered OTP
WhatsApp authentication OTP on Fast2SMS costs ₹0.25 per message. Two details matter for your budget:
- Billed on delivery. You pay when the OTP is delivered.
- Failed ones refunded. If a WhatsApp message fails, for example because the number is not on WhatsApp, the charge is refunded within 48 hours.
Here is the maths at a few monthly volumes. It is simple multiplication, so you can check it yourself.
| WhatsApp OTPs delivered per month | Calculation | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| 200 (about the ₹50 test credit) | 200 × ₹0.25 | ₹50 |
| 1,000 | 1,000 × ₹0.25 | ₹250 |
| 2,500 | 2,500 × ₹0.25 | ₹625 |
| 5,000 | 5,000 × ₹0.25 | ₹1,250 |
| 10,000 | 10,000 × ₹0.25 | ₹2,500 |
| 25,000 | 25,000 × ₹0.25 | ₹6,250 |
| Higher volumes | Negotiable rate | Talk to sales: +91-6262778811 |
A store with 1,000 OTP logins a month pays ₹250. A store with 10,000 pays ₹2,500. There is no plugin fee on top. When you sign up you get ₹50 test credit, which covers about 200 WhatsApp OTPs, enough to test login, signup and checkout properly before you spend anything.
WhatsApp OTP also needs no DLT registration, so you can go live without waiting for SMS approvals. Setup steps are in WooCommerce WhatsApp OTP login.
SMS OTP cost: your DLT SMS rate
SMS OTP is billed at your DLT SMS rate per message. I am not putting a number here because the rate depends on your account and volume, and a number in a blog post goes out of date. Check your rate in your Fast2SMS account or ask sales.
Two things to plan for with SMS:
- DLT comes first. SMS OTP needs a registered entity, a 6-letter header, an approved OTP template in the Transactional category and a PE-TM chain bound to a registered TMD. See the DLT registration FAQ.
- Smart OTP fallback. With Smart OTP, WhatsApp goes first and SMS is the automatic fallback (or the reverse), set at Fast2SMS by OTP ID. When a WhatsApp OTP fails and the SMS goes out, the failed WhatsApp charge is refunded and you pay for the SMS at your DLT rate. Read how Smart OTP works.

What drives your WooCommerce OTP volume
Your monthly OTP cost is simply the number of delivered OTPs multiplied by the rate. So the real question is: how many OTPs will your store send? Four features create them.
- Login with OTP. One OTP each time a customer logs in on the WooCommerce login form, wp-login.php or a page with the
[fast2sms_otp_login]shortcode. Returning customers who stay logged in do not need a new one each visit. - Signup. Phone verification on registration sends one OTP per new account. New numbers can also get an account created automatically at login.
- Checkout OTP. One OTP to verify the billing mobile before the order is placed. You can skip it for logged-in customers, which cuts volume a lot. Checkout OTP works with the classic (shortcode) checkout only, not the block checkout.
- COD confirmation. After a COD order, the customer gets a one-tap link to confirm with OTP. That is one OTP per COD order the customer confirms.
Resends add to the count too. Every resend that is delivered is another message.
A worked example
Take a made-up store to see how the numbers add up. In one month it has 3,000 OTP logins, 500 signups, 1,000 checkout verifications from guest buyers, and 800 COD confirmations.
- Total OTPs: 3,000 + 500 + 1,000 + 800 = 5,300
- On WhatsApp: 5,300 × ₹0.25 = ₹1,325 for the month
- Plugin fee: ₹0
Your numbers will differ. The Dashboard shows OTPs sent and OTPs verified for the last 30 days, so after one month you can use your own figures instead of guesses.

How the security limits stop wasted OTPs
An OTP form on a public page is a target. Bots can hit it again and again, and every delivered message costs money. The plugin enforces these limits on the server, so they cannot be skipped from the browser:
- 3 OTP sends per mobile number in 10 minutes. One customer tapping Resend over and over cannot run up your bill.
- 10 OTP sends per IP address in 10 minutes. A bot cycling through many numbers from one address is stopped.
- 5 verify attempts per OTP. Codes cannot be guessed by brute force.
- OTP expires in 10 minutes. Old codes are useless.
- Resend countdown of 10 to 300 seconds. You choose how long the customer waits before Resend. A short timer means more resends, so 30 to 60 seconds is a sensible middle.
These limits matter more for cost than most people think. Without them, one bad night of bot traffic could empty a wallet. If customers hit a limit and complain, the WooCommerce OTP not received guide explains what to tell them.

Free WooCommerce OTP plugin vs yearly licences vs per-SMS plugins
OTP plugins for WooCommerce charge in a few different ways, and the same is true when you compare any WooCommerce SMS plugin or WooCommerce WhatsApp plugin. Compare the model, not only the headline number.
| Billing model | What you pay | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Free plugin + pay per message (Fast2SMS) | ₹0 for the plugin; WhatsApp OTP ₹0.25 per delivered message; SMS at your DLT rate | Cost moves with real usage; failed WhatsApp refunded within 48 hours |
| Yearly licence + messages | A plan fee every year, plus SMS or email transactions bought separately | You pay the plan in quiet months too; renewals come every year |
| Prepaid balance inside the plugin | A fixed per-message or per-call rate set by the plugin vendor | Simple to start; check what each message type costs |
Two public examples, as stated on the vendors’ own pages when we checked:
- miniOrange lists yearly paid plans for its OTP Verification plugin on its pricing page, and says SMS and email transactions are bought separately, either from miniOrange or from a third-party gateway. If you are comparing, our miniOrange OTP alternative page goes deeper.
- COD Order Confirmation for India states ₹0.40 per SMS (and ₹2.00 per voice call) on its WordPress.org page, with a balance you recharge inside the plugin.
Prices change, so always check the vendor’s current page before you decide. For a wider look at options, see best WooCommerce OTP plugins.

High-volume WooCommerce stores: negotiate your OTP rate
If your store sends thousands of OTPs a day, do not just accept the list price. Rates are negotiable for high volume. Big D2C brands, marketplaces and COD-heavy stores with large order counts should talk to sales before they scale up.
- Call sales: +91-6262778811
- Email: [email protected]
- Or book a free meeting and bring your monthly OTP numbers from the Dashboard
Share your expected OTP volume, the split between WhatsApp and SMS, and your order notifications. The more clearly you show your volume, the easier it is to agree a rate that fits.
Pricing: free WooCommerce plugin, pay only per message
- The plugin is free: no licence, no monthly fee, no setup fee.
- WhatsApp OTP and order updates: ₹0.25 per delivered message; failed WhatsApp messages are refunded within 48 hours.
- SMS: your DLT SMS rate per message.
- High volume? Rates are negotiable: call +91-6262778811, email [email protected] or book a free meeting.
- Free signup with ₹50 test credit.
Ways to keep WooCommerce OTP cost under control
- Use OTP where it solves a real problem. COD confirmation if RTO hurts you, checkout OTP if fake or wrong numbers hurt you, login OTP if customers forget passwords.
- Skip checkout OTP for logged-in customers. They already verified when they logged in.
- Go WhatsApp first with SMS fallback. You pay only for delivered WhatsApp messages and fall back to SMS when needed.
- Set a sensible resend countdown. Fewer early resends means fewer paid messages.
- Watch sent vs verified. The Dashboard shows OTPs sent and OTPs verified. A big gap means customers are not using the codes, which is worth looking into.
- Get a low-balance email. In Settings, set an amount and the plugin emails you when the wallet drops below it, so OTPs never stop mid-sale.

SMS OTP is billed at your DLT SMS rate, which depends on your account and volume, so a single number would mislead you. Check your rate in your Fast2SMS account or ask sales at [email protected].
Am I charged for WhatsApp OTPs that fail?
No, WhatsApp is billed on delivery, and failed WhatsApp messages are refunded within 48 hours, so an OTP that never reached the customer costs you nothing. A common failure is a customer whose number is not on WhatsApp, which is why Smart OTP SMS fallback is useful.

Is WhatsApp OTP cheaper than SMS OTP?
It depends on your DLT SMS rate, since WhatsApp OTP is a flat ₹0.25 per delivered message and SMS is billed at your own rate. Compare the two for your account, and remember WhatsApp OTP needs no DLT registration.
Does Smart OTP fallback cost extra?
There is no separate fee for Smart OTP. If a WhatsApp OTP fails and the fallback SMS is sent, the failed WhatsApp charge is refunded within 48 hours and you pay for the SMS at your DLT rate.
How many OTPs will my WooCommerce store send?
Add up OTP logins, signups with phone verification, checkout verifications and COD confirmations, plus any delivered resends, to get your monthly OTP count. After a month, the plugin Dashboard shows your real OTPs sent and verified for the last 30 days.
Does checkout OTP add to my cost?
Yes, checkout OTP sends one OTP each time a buyer verifies their billing mobile, so it adds to your monthly message count and cost. You can skip it for logged-in customers to cut volume. Checkout OTP works with the classic (shortcode) checkout only, not the block checkout.
How much does COD OTP confirmation cost?
Each COD confirmation uses one OTP, so on WhatsApp it costs ₹0.25 per confirmed order, with no plugin fee and failed WhatsApp messages refunded. For 800 COD confirmations in a month, that is ₹200. See WooCommerce COD OTP verification.
Can bots drain my WooCommerce OTP wallet?
The plugin makes it hard, because it allows only 3 OTP sends per number and 10 per IP address in 10 minutes, checked on the server. It also allows 5 verify attempts per OTP, and each OTP expires in 10 minutes.
Do OTP resends cost money?
Yes, every resend that is delivered is billed like any other message, so customers tapping Resend too early push up your OTP cost. A resend countdown of 30 to 60 seconds, set on the OTP & Login tab, stops customers from tapping Resend before the first code arrives.
Do I pay for an OTP the customer never enters?
Yes, billing is based on delivery, not on whether the customer types the code, so an OTP that arrives but is never used is still charged. That is why the gap between OTPs sent and OTPs verified on the Dashboard is worth watching.
How do yearly licence OTP plugins charge?
Yearly licence plugins charge a plan fee every year for the plugin’s features, and the SMS or WhatsApp messages themselves usually cost extra on top. For example, miniOrange lists yearly paid plans and says SMS and email transactions are bought separately. Check the vendor’s current pricing page before you buy.
What does COD Order Confirmation for India charge?
Its WordPress.org page states ₹0.40 per SMS and ₹2.00 per voice call, charged from a balance you recharge inside the plugin. Prices can change, so check the plugin page for the current rate before you compare.
Do I need DLT registration to send OTP?
Only for SMS: SMS OTP needs a registered entity, a 6-letter header, an approved Transactional OTP template and a valid PE-TM chain. WhatsApp OTP needs no DLT, so you can start with WhatsApp while your SMS setup is approved.
How do I recharge my Fast2SMS wallet from WooCommerce?
Open WP Admin > Fast2SMS, where the header shows your wallet balance and SMS count with a recharge link that takes you to your Fast2SMS account. You can also set an email alert in Settings for when the balance drops below an amount you choose.

How can I see how many OTPs I sent this month?
