How Much Does It Cost to Send Invoices on WhatsApp from Tally?

Before you switch your billing to WhatsApp, you want one number: what will this cost me every month? Most Tally WhatsApp price pages give you a package, a licence and a renewal date. This guide does the opposite. It shows the real cost of sending invoices on WhatsApp from Tally, with simple maths you can check on a calculator, for a small shop, a busy distributor and everyone in between.

The short version: the Fast2SMS Tally WhatsApp plugin costs ₹0 to download and use, with no licence, no renewal and no monthly fee. You pay ₹0.25 for each WhatsApp message that is delivered, from your own Fast2SMS wallet. Failed messages are refunded. That is the whole Tally WhatsApp plugin cost.

What you pay for, and what you do not

A Tally WhatsApp setup has two possible costs: the software that sits inside Tally, and the messages you send. With the free WhatsApp plugin for Tally from Fast2SMS, the first one is zero. Here is the full list:

Item What you pay
Tally WhatsApp plugin (.TCP file) ₹0, free download
Licence or activation fee ₹0
Yearly renewal ₹0, there is no renewal
Setup or monthly fee ₹0
Fast2SMS account ₹0, plus ₹50 free test credit after signup
Default templates (T101 to T120) ₹0, ready and pre-approved
Each WhatsApp invoice, receipt or reminder (utility message) ₹0.25, charged only when delivered
Failed WhatsApp message ₹0, auto-refunded within 48 hours
SMS (optional) Your DLT SMS rate, from the same wallet

So the cost of sending an invoice on WhatsApp from Tally is simply the number of delivered messages multiplied by ₹0.25. Nothing else is added on top from the plugin side.

Tally WhatsApp cost per month: the ready table

Find the row closest to the number of invoices you raise in a month. The maths is invoices x ₹0.25.

Invoices on WhatsApp per month Working Cost per month Cost over 12 months
50 50 x ₹0.25 ₹12.50 ₹150
200 200 x ₹0.25 ₹50 ₹600
500 500 x ₹0.25 ₹125 ₹1,500
2,000 2,000 x ₹0.25 ₹500 ₹6,000
5,000 5,000 x ₹0.25 ₹1,250 ₹15,000

A small retail shop sending 50 bills a month pays ₹12.50 for the whole month. A distributor sending 2,000 invoices a month pays ₹500. And the plugin itself stays at ₹0 in every row, month after month.

How to work out your own Tally WhatsApp price

Invoices are not the only thing you will send. Receipts, payment advice, outstanding reminders and ledger confirmations also go as WhatsApp messages, and each one counts as one message. All the Tally templates are utility messages, so every one of them is ₹0.25 when delivered.

Use this simple method:

  1. Count your monthly invoices. Look at the sales register for a normal month.
  2. Add receipts you want to confirm. Every receipt voucher you send is one more message.
  3. Add reminders. If you send one outstanding reminder to each debtor every month, add the number of debtors.
  4. Multiply the total by ₹0.25. That is your monthly WhatsApp cost.

Worked example: a hardware shop

The shop raises about 20 bills a day and is open 26 days a month. That is 20 x 26 = 520 invoices. It also sends one monthly outstanding reminder to 150 credit customers.

  • Invoices: 520 x ₹0.25 = ₹130
  • Reminders: 150 x ₹0.25 = ₹37.50
  • Total: ₹167.50 per month

Worked example: an FMCG distributor

The distributor sends 1,500 invoices a month from the sales register in bulk, 400 receipt confirmations, and a monthly reminder to 300 retailers.

  • Invoices: 1,500 x ₹0.25 = ₹375
  • Receipts: 400 x ₹0.25 = ₹100
  • Reminders: 300 x ₹0.25 = ₹75
  • Total: ₹550 per month

Worked example: a CA firm

A CA firm sends each of its 80 clients a ledger confirmation and a trial balance once a month: 80 x 2 = 160 messages, so 160 x ₹0.25 = ₹40 per month.

You can see how the wallet is moving at any time, because the Fast2SMS wallet balance shows inside Tally itself, with a recharge option right there.

Free plugin vs paid Tally WhatsApp TDL vs Tally’s own service

This is where the real saving is. Paid third-party Tally WhatsApp TDLs commonly cost ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 plus GST upfront, and some also charge a yearly panel renewal. On top of that you still pay for messages. Tally’s own “TallyPrime with WhatsApp” is a paid subscription service.

Option Upfront cost Renewal Per message
Fast2SMS Tally plugin ₹0 None ₹0.25 per delivered WhatsApp, failed refunded
Typical paid Tally WhatsApp TDL ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 + GST Some charge yearly Charged on top
TallyPrime with WhatsApp (Tally’s service) Paid subscription Subscription As per Tally’s plan

Put the upfront fee in message terms. ₹3,000 at ₹0.25 each is 3,000 / 0.25 = 12,000 WhatsApp invoices. ₹6,000 is 24,000 invoices. For the shop in our example sending about 670 messages a month, ₹3,000 is roughly 18 months of WhatsApp sending, before GST. With the free plugin, that money stays in your business.

What ₹0.25 gets you

A low price is only useful if the message does the job. Each ₹0.25 message from the plugin gives you:

  • The invoice PDF attached as a document inside an approved Meta template, so the customer opens it right in the chat.
  • Official WhatsApp Business API delivery. No QR scan, no phone that needs to stay on, and no ban risk from WhatsApp Web automation. More on this in Tally to WhatsApp without QR.
  • Your business name inside every message, even on the default sender.
  • Delivery reports inside Tally and in your Fast2SMS panel, so you know which bills reached.

What the customer receives: invoice PDF attached, invoice number, date, amount and your business name.

Tally templates use the utility category. The marketing rate (₹0.95) does not apply to them. If you want to understand how WhatsApp message types are priced in general, see WhatsApp session message pricing and the WhatsApp Business API India FAQ.

Failed messages: you do not pay for them

Some numbers in your ledgers will be wrong, old or not on WhatsApp. That is normal. WhatsApp messages are charged only on delivery, and failed messages are auto-refunded to your wallet within 48 hours. So a messy customer list does not waste your money, it only shows you which numbers to fix.

To fix them fast, use the plugin’s Update Mobile Numbers screen (Sundry Debtors) to correct numbers in bulk, or Import Mobile Numbers with the sample Excel file.

What about SMS?

The same plugin also sends SMS. SMS is billed at your DLT SMS rate from the same Fast2SMS wallet. SMS needs DLT registration (sender ID and templates), and because SMS cannot carry an attachment, the invoice PDF goes as a short link that opens in the browser.

Preview first, then send. On SMS the invoice PDF travels as a short link.

Many businesses use WhatsApp for invoices and keep SMS only if they need it. WhatsApp needs no DLT at all. For SMS setup, read the Tally SMS plugin guide and Tally SMS DLT templates.

Test it free with ₹50 credit

Every new Fast2SMS account gets ₹50 of free test credit after signup. At ₹0.25 per WhatsApp message, that is 50 / 0.25 = about 200 WhatsApp invoices. That is enough to install the plugin, send bills to your own phone and a few real customers, and see the full flow before you add a single rupee.

Setup takes about ten minutes:

  1. Download the .TCP file and load it in TallyPrime as a Local TDL, or upload it in your Tally.NET account as an Account TDL.
  2. Press F1: Help > TDLs & Add-ons > F6: Add-On Features and set the WhatsApp module (and the SMS module if you want it) to Yes. Only the company administrator sees this option. A Fast2SMS.com menu appears on the Gateway of Tally.
  3. Copy your API key from the Dev API section of fast2sms.com and paste it in the plugin’s API Key Update screen.
  4. Enter the default phone number ID and message IDs, as shown below.

The full walkthrough with screenshots is in the main free Tally WhatsApp and SMS plugin guide.

Start in two minutes with the ready default templates

The default templates cost you nothing to use: no Meta approval, no own number, just the same ₹0.25 per delivered message.

You do not need your own WhatsApp Business number or any Meta approval to start. Fast2SMS gives 20 ready, pre-approved templates on a default sender. After you paste your API key, make two entries:

  1. Tally to WhatsApp > WhatsApp API Settings: type 123456789 as the WABA Phone Number ID.
  2. Tally to WhatsApp > WhatsApp Template Settings: enter the message IDs T101 to T120 exactly as in the table below.

Save, and WhatsApp sending is live from the Fast2SMS default sender. Your business name appears inside every message.

Upgrade to your own brand name

When you want invoices to arrive from your own business number, complete the Meta embedded signup from your Fast2SMS panel. Then press Add Templates to META Account in the plugin’s WhatsApp Template Settings, which sends all 20 templates to your own account for approval in one go. Once approved, replace 123456789 with your own phone number ID and T101 to T120 with your approved message IDs. The per-message price stays the same; the steps are in Tally WhatsApp templates Meta approval.
